Don’t swing your Mac out of the window just yet! For every annoying time your actions with App Store report a problem, there’s a handy and smart fix available. So let’s walk through this quick App Store troubleshooting guide.
The Mac's Messages app includes a function that allows one user to control or observe the screen of another Mac — which can be useful for long-distance troubleshooting. The procedure varies by Mac model. For Apple’s latest MacBook and MacBook Pros, simply remove the battery, disconnect the laptop from AC power and hold down the power button for five seconds. Launch the App Store on your Mac by clicking the Apple icon on the far left of your Mac’s menu bar and selecting App Store, and check the Updates tab. Easy ways to fix prevalent app store problems
Generally, most App Store problems can be addressed by either checking the Apple servers, restarting your Mac, testing your WiFi, clearing the cache, or resetting the apps. Below we’ll explore all these solutions in more detail.
Check Apple’s server status
If your App Store app refuses to load or show any information, the problem could very well be on Apple’s side, in which case there’s little you can do except wait (usually a few minutes to a couple hours). To check for this issue:
- Go to apple.com/support/systemstatus.
- See if the dot next to the App Store is green (available) or red (there’s a problem).
Tweak your Mac’s system
In case all the Apple servers are fine, you should pay some attention to your Mac’s settings. First, restart your Mac by clicking on the Apple logo in the menu bar ➙ Restart…
Then, check that the date and time on your Mac is set correctly. Sometimes, certain incompatibilities can be caused by the discrepancy between your Mac’s time and the time at Apple servers:
- Click on the Apple logo in the menu bar ➙ System Preferences…
- Navigate to the Date & Time tab.
- Make sure that “Set date and time automatically” box is ticked.
If the problem seems to be in the App Store slow download pending error, it could be your WiFi connection that is to blame:
- Check your connection speed using a website like speedtest.net.
- If the posted speed is much slower than what you signed up for, contact your ISP.
- Alternatively, click the WiFi icon in the menu bar.

- If that didn’t do much — reset your WiFi router.
There could also be a possibility of your macOS misbehaving. Don’t worry — various broken items do accumulate in your system, and it’s good to clear them out once in a while. When you see errors that make Apple report a problem refunding your money or some other pesky Apple billing problem, you know you have to deal with the App Store app directly. There are a few solutions here you should try.
First of all, it could be an issue with authentication, so try to simply log out of the app and log right back in:
- With the App Store open, go to Store in the menu bar and select Sign Out.
- Next, select Store ➙ Sign In.
- Enter your email and password ➙ Sign In.
If the issue persists, go a step further and clean your cache files:
- Open the Terminal utility (from your Applications folder).
- Type: open $TMPDIR./C/com.apple.appstore/ and hit Enter.
- Delete everything in the com.apple.appstore folder.
- In Terminal, type: ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore and delete everything you see in the fsCachedData folder.
Another tip that often works is updating all your apps, since some of them could be incompatible with the App Store for some reason, thus causing conflict. To make things easy, avoid updating your apps through the App Store and use CleanMyMac X instead:
- Launch CleanMyMac X (or download for free first).
- Go to the Updater under Applications in the sidebar.
- Check all the apps that have the later versions available and click Update.

Just joking, none of your files will be lost — you simply need to reset the App Store. As doing so manually is quite complicated, we should use CleanMyMac X here once again:
- Open or download CleanMyMac X.
- In the menu bar, go to CleanMyMac ➙ Preferences ➙ Ignore List ➙ Uninstaller.
- Uncheck the box “Ignore system applications.”
- Go to the Uninstaller under Applications in the sidebar.
- Select the App Store and choose Reset from the dropdown menu.
- Click the Reset button.
Now, after checking Apple’s servers, tuning your Mac, deleting system junk and old cache files, updating and resetting apps, the App Store slow download pending error should finally be resolved.

Here are a number of problems and 12 fixes for those who've encountered unexpected issues with Mac Mail.
1. Mail not launching since macOS Catalina update
This is one of the most common problems people keep encountering, and it seems the fix is pretty simple too.
Fix: Launch the Mac Mail app from your Applications
If Mail launches that way, drag the icon out of the Dock. Once that has vanished, drag the icon — a copy of it will be made —back into the Dock. Then close Mail and attempt to open it again via the Dock. Providing that works, your problem is fixed.
Tip: Control + Click the Mail app icon to reveal 'Open' command in the context menu.
2. Mail crashing or running slow
Now, if the above solution doesn't work and Mail is either crashing or running slowly, there are other ways you can get it working smoothly again. No one can be without access to email for too long!
Fix 1: Force Quit the Mail app
Do this the usual way, and if that doesn't work, move onto the next step.
Fix 2: Restart Mail using the Activity Monitor
- Go to Activity Monitor through Spotlight, Siri or Utilities.
- Type ‘Mail’ into the search function.
- Now click on the X symbol to force close.
- Attempt to restart the usual way - or take it out of the Dock and put it back in (fix #1), before trying to restart the Mail app.
Fix 3: Delete saved Mail states
If the solutions above don't work, let’s start to clear out some prior-state files on your Mac.
This requires going into your hidden Library folders.
- Open Finder > Go to Folder..
- Now hold the Option key and Select Library to open these folders.
- Find this folder: Containers > com.apple.mail > Data > Library > Saved Application State

- Within that, move this folder into Trash: com.apple.mail.savedState
- Empty the Trash and try to restart Mac Mail the usual way.
Important: Back up the mentioned folder so you can put it back if something goes wrong.

If that has worked, you can restart Mail and it should be running smoothly. If not, there are other solutions below, and some that don't involve quite so much digging within Library folders and files - which aren't always so easy to find for those who aren't Mac power users.

In some cases, these problems have caused Mail folders to go missing - without those the app won’t work, so there are solutions to these that most users can manage without too much difficulty to get the Mail app working again.
Fix: Check your Mail Connections
- Open the Mail app.

- This will show whether there are problems with connecting to the Mail app.
- Now re-check account settings and delete and re-add your Mail account to reset this.
